COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION: PROPOSITION 65
Proposition 65 is a law that every consumer has a right to know about, as it lists more than 800 chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive toxicity. The list is updated at least once a year, affecting all consumer products sold or distributed in the State of California.
For companies to comply with Proposition 65 they must provide an alert unless they can ensure that exposure to a chemical on the list does not pose a significant level of risk concerning chemicals that cause cancer or a no appreciable level of effect for chemicals that cause birth defects or harm to the reproductive system.
If an article is exceeded in any element, it must be specified in the labeling with a warning. So, unless there is some kind of exception, companies may not expose people to a listed chemical without providing a clear and reasonable warning, nor may they discharge a listed chemical into drinking water sources.
